The German automotive industry is running out of engineers!
Bad news for one of key industrial sectors in Germany; approximately 15% of all jobs in Germany depend directly or indirectly on the automotive industry and their suppliers
According to serious estimations, there will be a lack of engineers up to 15.000 in the year 2010. The demographic trend is one reason for the foreseeable need for qualified staff. Other reasons are an increasing demand for specialists and experts in research and development. Innovative propulsion techniques, like e-drive or fuel cells will generate a new generation of specialists and experts.
In the long run, there might be no turnaround. Most probably the gap between the specialists and experts available and the demand of qualified staff will increase. Smaller Companies and Tier1 and Tier2 supplier might suffer more from the shortage of qualified experts.
Decreasing numbers of qualified applicants, coming along with the demographic trend will lead to the situation that a significant amount of job openings will be vacant. A lot of vacancies cannot be staffed with the appropriate candidates.
As a matter of fact, the current recruiting procedures need to be reviewed carefully. A professional support by an external recruiting specialist should be considered, especially for complex search processes within a critical time frame.
